These 5 Health Foods Are Here to Stay in 2018
What health food will be trending in 2018?
As we inch closer to the New Year, some of us are already starting to brainstorm ways that we can get healthier. This may lead to some coming up with fitness goals. However, many of us will be narrowing our focus down to dieting and researching what we put in our bodies.
With so much information out there on health foods and so many different diets to try, it can be daunting to figure out where our focus should be. How do we know where to start? How do we even know what is overhyped and what isn’t? What are people thinking about in terms of diets? What is the overall focus? Recently a team of dietitians and health experts came together to do a nutrition survey to figure these things out. We will give a breakdown of the information below.
According to the results, these are the 5 health foods that are not going anywhere in 2018:
- Sprouted foods like bean sprouts, breads with sprouted grains, sprouted almonds, and more.
- Veggies in place of grains
- Dairy-free milks
- Legumes, which have been labeled as pulses in the infographic, include dried peas, beans, lentils, garbanzo/chickpeas, and more.
So what does this mean?
Looking at the list above, you can see what is trending for people who are dieting and interested in switching up to diet to something healthier. Turmeric has generated interest due to its flavor and anti-inflammatory properties. Legumes have also generated interest due to it being considered a healthier, more fiber-enriched carb.
The health experts also took a look at what diets people will be focusing on into the new year. According to the data, interest in low-fat diets is waning, which could be connected to with recent research being released on healthy fats like omega-3 fatty acids. The diet that people are interested in the most for 2018? Local, sustainably-sourced diets focusing on gut health. With more research being done on gut health and health foods like prebiotics/probiotics gaining traction in terms of interest, the switch in diet interest makes sense.
What is on the way out?
Survey research also showed that people wanted to focus more on cutting out sugar from their diets and start adding more protein and prebiotics/probiotics into their diets, with an interest in their gut health.
Now which diets are on the way out? Low-fat, as we mentioned above, is on its way out. However, we may be seeing a decline in the ketogenic diet and the paleo diet next year. Why? Based off of responses from the survey, consumers believe both diets were too hyped.
